NOT WORTH THE WAIT (SADLY)
I ordered this unit back in June of this year, thinking it was going to be a great all-rounder as a present for my parents. Ticked most of the boxes on paper, as I’m trying to get them back into playing vinyl, like when they did for me when I was a wee nipper.
I was aware that there was a shortage of stock upon placing the order, so was quite happy to wait for availability. BAX Music have been brilliant in keeping me updated about the delays of delivery this item has been taking. However, after receiving the latest email informing me that stock wasn’t gonna be ready for another SIX MONTHS, I was almost prepared to admit defeat and order an alternative product. But imagine my surprise when I get another email a couple of days later informing this item is now winging it’s way over to me!
Well, I finally picked it up today and what a huge disappointment it turns out to be. A lot smaller and definitely a lot lighter than I was expecting. Some slight damage to the outer packaging. But it was the rattling inside that concerned me the most. Long story short, having taken the main unit out of it’s packaging, luckily there’s no real damage, as it was packed internally pretty well, albeit packed upside down. It’s the five screws rattling inside the dust cover that was concerning me - where the heck did they come from?! And the other disappointment is how cheap and flimsy the record deck side the unit seems to be. Obviously a cost-cutting exercise but definitely mulls what could be a great all-in-one unit. It plays a record okay, thanks to the half-decent Audio Technica cartridge fitted. But the Auto-Return feature doesn’t seem to function at all. However, I won’t be returning this item, as I took matters in to my own hands by investigating where the stray screws comes from. Hence immediately invalidating the warranty, by removing the (very cheap and plastic) turntable platter. It was then obvious when peering inside that the stray screws were meant to be holding down the main board to the bottom of the inside of the unit. So, screws to short to do their job of securing in place properly. I also couldn’t work out how to get the Arm Auto Return to function correctly.
Putting it all back together, i am now wondering if it’s worth handing over it over as a president to my parents, or just cut my loses and go for something else with a bit more quality feel about it.
Overall, I’m pretty disappointed by this item, with the Quality Control and general operation. So don’t feel it’s been worth the wait, sadly. I haven’t bothered testing the speakers yet and have only given it a quick listen under headphones. CD sounded ok Not sure about the rest of the features, such as radio, etc. But, as It currently stands, I can’t really recommend this product. BAX Music have been great all the same!
